5 Quick Tips for Safety on the Road

5 Quick Tips for Safety on the Road
By Pete Lance

The road is a dangerous place. Any driver on the road has life-and-death power over his passengers and everyone he encounters on the road, including other drivers. Do not, ever, lose your focus when you are driving. Here are 5 quick tips to ensuring your safety on the road.

1. Drive safely, or don’t drive. There are many things that can go wrong on the road. But there are also things that you can do to lessen the risk on the road. Two rules: Do not drive when you are drunk, sleepy, or not in full control of yourself. Do not drive when you are not in full control of the car.

2. Be cooperative. Driving is all about teamwork. You have to work as a team with the other drivers on the road so as to ensure nobody gets hurt. You can do anything that people will reasonably expect you to do. But don’t ever surprise other drivers by doing unexpected things. This can cause big trouble, especially on the highway.

3. Think ahead. You need to give your fellow drivers time to react to anything you do. Don’t do anything sudden. Signal before you change lanes or turn. Do things evenly, be it changing lanes, accelerating, slowing down, etc. Allow the other drivers to mentally compute where you are going to be.

4. Cool it. Don’t let your emotions take control of you. Never get angry with other drivers, no matter how unreasonable they are. It is inevitable that drivers make mistakes, even grave or stupid ones. Some drivers will even weave in and out of traffic, just to get to the front, and in the process irritate everyone else. Don’t get angry with them, and never get back at them in anyway, or you may become a hazard yourself. Always remember to stay cool, calm and collected .

5. Your area of vision is the most important. The rule of thumb is if you can’t see, don’t go! Perhaps your windshield is cracked. Perhaps your mirrors are not adjusted properly. Perhaps your windshield wipers are faulty. Don’t drive if you cannot see, especially in wet weather. It’s always better to be late than never.

Tips For Selecting New Cars

Filed under: Car Care — Blogman @ 4:45 am

Purchasing A New Cars

When people buy new car, keep abreast of the newest selections, makes and models. Bringing home a new car can provide happiness and joy. However, at the same time it can be very expensive if you are not financially well off. All sorts of new cars are being sold in the market, cars for the middle class, business class and sports car. Whenever you plan to buy any of the new cars available these days make sure that you are well aware of the facts and figures related to cars. Learn about the things and parts that you must look for before making a deal. Browse the net, read books or seek your friends help. Keep yourself abreast of the following tips that can make your selection and purchase of any of the new cars easy.

- Be leery of advertising. Never get carried away by the advertisements that might be enticing. Always check your budget and the price of the car that you are buying. Enquire for the prices of all the new cars. Luxurious cars are no doubt the best in the lot of new cars but if any of their parts breaks you could end up investing quite a big amount in its repair. Therefore, before buying, ask yourself whether that particular brand of car and vice-versa is the best for you?

- Check for the financial aid offered on new cars. This can also help you to make your choice if you are confused. Also get your car insured once you buy it.

- Before buying, consider the fact whether you will be using your new car daily or occasionally. For daily use, a strong and durable car must be selected, but occasional users can settle for fancy and delicate ones. Also check whether or not the parts of the car will be easily available in your area. Do check the services centers as well.

- Select a car that is made for the roads and the traffic in your area. For example you cannot run a sports car on the roads full of potholes. Although, this may sound weird, it helps to control your emotions when you visit the showroom for new cars and get fascinated by a flashy sports car.

- Put money aside for emergencies. If your new car happens to be the vintage car the money to be stored can be somewhere around $3000 or more.

5 Tips about BMW Accessories

Filed under: Car Care — Blogman @ 7:15 am

You have worked and worked and worked some more, you have saved and sacrificed. You finally have it, the BMW that you have always wanted. Now, you want, no need to make it more personal, more yours. Its time to accessorize. However, where do you begin? Follow these tips to find the right accessories for you and your car.

1- One of the best places to start your search for the right accessory is online. There are numerous stores and dealers that offer items from floor mats to graphics and everything in between. Online, you can see pictures, read reviews and get the chosen items shipped directly to your door. As an added bonus, many online stores either deeply discount the products or offer free shipping.

2- However, if you prefer, you can go into a BMW dealership and speak with someone personally to pick out the accessories that best suit your personality and price range. The dealership may also be able to help you by allowing you to see what the accessory will look like on your car before you purchase it, therefore avoiding making a costly mistake.

3- Some of the most popular accessories for BMW’s are wheels, stereos and interior accessories such as steering wheels and gearshift covers. These particular types of after market items come in a variety of styles and prices, there is, literally something for everyone

4- Another excellent and often overlooked source of BMW accessories are car clubs, specifically BMW clubs. These types of clubs are full of other enthusiasts who are normally very happy to help you search for an accessory as they have the same interests in their cars as you do in yours. You can find these clubs via the internet, yellow pages or BMW car dealers.

5- After all the research and actual searching for accessories is complete, its time to install. For a lot of car buffs this part is more anticipated than actually seeing what the part looks like on. However, to ensure that you are installing the accessory correctly you are going to need instructions. Often times, the part itself comes with, at best, vague directions. It would be best to contact other BMW owners, either through a car club or via online forums and chat rooms. They will be your best source of actual how-to instructions to get your BMW outfitted and more suited to your personality. Have fun.

Gas Pump Money Saving Tips

Gas Pump Money Saving Tips

Gas prices are zooming sky high with no ceiling in sight.
Do you remember when a gallon of unleaded cost $1.25?

These days, it s more important than ever to stretch your
dollars at the gas pump.

Here are ten gasoline buying tips to help you do that.

1. Shop Around

Prices vary among stations that sell the same brand. Find a
station that sells your favorite brand cheaper. Prices
between brands can vary. You can save money by switching
brands.

2. Use a Gasoline Credit Card

Some give a 5 to 10 percent rebate on purchases.

3. Buy Gasoline in the Morning

Gasoline is denser during the morning when temperatures are
colder. Gas pumps measure and charge by volume, not
density. You ll be getting more solid fuel rather than
vapors for your money.

4. Buy Gas from a Busy Station

Busy gas stations refill their underground tanks often.
Slower stations don t. Therefore, their tanks may have
stale contaminated gas. Older fuel is poorer on fuel
economy and performance.

5. Turn the Nozzle

Twist the gas pump nozzle 180 degrees when done. This can
add up to an extra four ounces to your tank.

6. Stop Using High-Octane Gas

High-octane gas costs more than regular. If you car isn t
pinging, use regular unleaded. You ll save up to 20 cents
per gallon.

7. Avoid Topping-Off

The pump needs time to draw out the full amount. It doesn t
get it when you Top-off. You pay extra for these short-
burst of fuel. Wait until your tank is at least half-full
before you fill it up.

8. Avoid Stations That Just Refilled Their Tanks

The refilling of underground tanks stirs up particles that
lay at the bottom. If these particles get in to your gas
tank, they can cut the fuel efficiency of your car.

9. Pump Your Own Gas

Use the self-serve rather than the full-serve pump. Full-
serve gasoline costs more. You save money pumping gas
yourself.

10. Tighten the Gas Cap

Twist the cap until you hear it click. This prevents
gasoline from evaporating and escaping.

Final Thought

These ten tips are easy to apply. Remember to use them each
time at the gas pump. You ll be stretching your gas
dollars.

Tips To Get Your Car Through A Cold Winter

Filed under: Car Care — Blogman @ 12:15 pm

Everyone wants to save money on car repairs, right?

Make it a point to schedule into your calendar a winter booster check for your car.

Keep these tips in mind for your winter travel, and you ll have a safer winter travel season all around!

A gas tank which is kept filled helps keep moisture from forming. Make it a habit to go ahead and fill up when your tank is half empty.

Change your oil and oil filter every 3,000 miles or so if your driving is mostly stop-and-go or consists of frequent short trips. Personally, I’d change my oil every 2000 miles, regardless. It will save you loads of trouble in the long run. Go ahead. Schedule it into the planner.

Wiper blades are one of those things we usually never think about until we need them, and they’re not working! Have you ever tried driving in sleet and snow with impaired visibility, thanks to dud wipers? Talk about nerve-wracking! Go ahead and replace old wiper blades. If your climate is harsh, purchase rubber-clad (winter) blades to fight ice build-up. Stock up on windshield washer solvent. You’ll be surprised how much you use. And, of course, carry an ice-scraper. I keep one in the car, and one in the house just in case my doors freeze and I can t open them immediately.

Make sure your heater and defroster are in good working condition.

Worn tires don’t help any time of year, least of all in winter weather. Examine tires for remaining tread life, uneven wearing, and cupping; check the sidewalls for cuts and nicks. It’s a good idea to check tire pressures once a month. Let the tires “cool down” before checking the pressure. Don’t forget to rotate your tires, too!

Make sure you have a spare and that the jack is in good condition.

Be prepared for emergencies, even if you live in a warmer climate. A winter emergency list should include gloves, boots, blankets, flares, a small shovel, sand or kitty litter, tire chains, a flash light, and a cell phone. Put a few “high-energy” snacks in your glove box. You can buy survival aids in the camping section of your sporting goods store.

It may take you less than an hour to get your car checked for winter and prepare for any emergency. That’s time well spent and it can save you a giant headache this winter season!
Indeed, it could even save your life and the lives of those you love.
